KENNY/KLOEPFER SCHOLARSHIP

Purpose: A special scholarship, named after Friends George Kenny of Dallas Meeting and Warner Kloepfer of the New Orleans Meeting, to be administered through the SCYM Finance Committee, for members of meetings within South Central Yearly Meeting. The scholarship is intended to encourage and to aid young people to seek out a Quaker education. This, in turn, will foster the growth of Quakerism and the influence of Quaker values in our geographical and SCYM region. However, the scholarship is not limited to young people; anyone of any age who is attending or planning to attend a Quaker school may apply.

Responsibilities:

  1. Scholarships are budgeted for and awarded each year in the amount of $500. The scholarship amount is a line item in the operations budget. More than one scholarship may be awarded.
  2. Members of Quaker Meetings within SCYM are eligible to apply.
  3. The funds will be applicable only to Quaker schools, at any educational level: Kindergarten through postgraduate education.
  4. If there are several applicants, preference will be given to teenaged applicants.
  5. Information needed from the applicant and supplied to the Finance Committee:
  1. The Finance Committee meets during YM and traditionally announces its recommendation for receipt of the scholarship at the closing session of YM.

  2. The Finance Committee members appointed to handle the scholarship review are responsible for submitting a short written report to the Recording Clerk for inclusion in YM's Annual Proceedings.

  3. Scholarship recipients are expected to report their experiences at the Quaker school to SCYM at the next annual meeting. The report may be in the form of a letter to the yearly meeting, a presentation at yearly meeting, or a visual presentation.  A report that can be placed on the SCYM Website is also appropriate.
