Hello, SCYM Friends,
This is an update from the Workshop Committee for FGC Gathering 2019, to held be under the care of SCYM from June 30 to July 8, 2019 in Grinnell, Iowa.
The Workshop Committee is up and running. We number eight, including five volunteers from SCYM. We will be accepting workshop proposals soon, from August 15 to September 30, 2018. Among these, we are hoping to see proposals from members of our own SCYM. This is a chance to inform other Quakers of our interests and areas of expertise and let them get to know us. It’s also a terrific learning experience for workshop leaders.
Our theme is: Peace in Our Hearts. Justice in the World. We expect to see many proposals that address this wide-reaching theme. Note that experiences with the arts are included, so SCYM members who presented workshops at last year’s sessions should consider expanding their workshops. Gathering workshops meet Monday to Friday, 9:00-11:45 a.m., so there is time for a variety of activities within the workshops.
High school attenders are required to take a workshop, so we welcome workshops that appeal to high schoolers as well as those designed for older Friends. (We know from experience that the young people have a great time at Gathering!)
We’re happy to say that workshop leaders are eligible for a reduction in costs equal to 50% of the Basic Gathering Fee. There is only one credit per workshop, so co-leaders need to decide how to share this credit.

Be sure to email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like an email reminder when the form for workshop proposals is posted.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
